Mariah and Robert Waltz

[Verse 1]

Robert’s kind and tall and neat,

Friendly smile, but clumsy feet.

Twenty years and looking fine,

Dance steps missing from his mind.

Prom lights glow across the floor,

Violins begin to soar.

Mariah hears the tune,

Says, “Oh good—we’re waltzing soon!”

[Verse 2]

“I love waltzing,” Mariah cries,

Sparkling joy in dancer’s eyes.

Robert whispers, pale with dread,

“Let’s sit this out,” is what he said.

She just laughs and takes his hand,

Pulls him near the polished band.

Robert gulps and softly pleads,

But fate ignores his urgent needs.

[Chorus]

One-two-three—where do I go?

Fast or slow? I truly don’t know.

Turn and glide? I try my best,

But gravity’s not impressed.

One-two-three—I’m lost but free,

Dancing wrong joyfully.

Hold me close and count for me,

Through one-two -- oops -- in three-four time.

[Verse 3]

He steps left when right is due,

Trips on air — then blames a shoe.

Spins too far, then stops too soon,

Is Robert now Mariah’s goon?

Mariah guides him soft and kind,

Counts the steps and calms his mind.

Though his feet refuse to learn,

His mind begins to spin and turn.

Chorus

One-two-three—don’t let me fall,

I swear this floor just moved us all.

Lift and sway—oh not like that,

I bowed to the conductor’s hat.

One-two-three—stay close to me,

You’re dancing better counting three.

Laugh it through, just you and me,

In one-two –oops -- in three-four time.

[Bridge]

“Okay—listen left foot… right foot turn.”

“Wait—was that the turn or the bow?”

“Smile! One-two—” “I’m spinning!”

“Three!” “I regret my footwear choice tonight!”

Chorus

One-two-three—we made it through,

Every wrong step danced by you.

Not the grace, but joy we found,

Laughing while we spin around.

One-two-three—remember me,

The boy who missed a step or three.

I learned that love can lead the way,

Through one-two -- oops — olé!

[Outro]

The music ends, they take a bow,

A champ and fool—but dancing now.

No perfect steps, just hearts in time,

Waltzing wrong … and feeling fine.
