Saving Money

Verse 1

I’m a mixed up old cowpoke with dust on my hat,

Kids flew the coop, now it’s wife and the cat.

We did our time punchin’ clocks and mendin’ fences,

But bills still stack up on office benches.

Verse 2

My bride’s got a heart big as West Texas skies,

If she wants it, she buys — no thinkin’ twice.

Pantry’s full, fridge is groanin’,
still more from the store.
Although we toss out spoiled vittles,
we buy more.

Chorus

Whoa now, easy, don’t spend it all today,

Rain clouds still roll in when skies are gray.

I ain’t hollerin’, darlin’, just hummin’ a tune,

Save a little daylight for a long dark June.

Verse 3

I’m tighter than a cinch on a fast-running mare,

Countin’ nickels, thinkin’ health storms are near.

We’ve got enough now, that part’s plain true,

But I like savin’ money. That’s what I would do.

Verse 4

So here’s my campfire sermon, soft-spoken and slow,

From an old married cowboy who’s sings quiet and low.

Be generous, be kind, but don’t let savings slide—

You can’t lasso tomorrow if you spend every dime.

Final Chorus

Whoa now, partner, buy smart, save wise,

Even wide-open prairies can blow rain in our eyes.

Love’s the treasure I’ll always defend,

But a rainy-day fund is a good, faithful friend.
