Keep Searching Biff

[Verse 1]

Biff Jenkins played in the grand N F L,

He tackled like thunder and ran like, oh well.

But now he is blind, and wherever he goes,

He mixes up names—even people he knows.

He calls Charlie “Harry” and Martha “Lou,”

He calls old Bill Johnson “Miss Betty Sue.”

Eight or ten times, nearly every day,

They tell him, “Now, Biff, that’s not my name!”

[Verse 2]

The neighbors grew tired of correcting his way,

Eight or ten times on an ordinary day.

Then someone said, “Here’s the answer, by heck:

We’ll hang Braille name tags around our neck!”

So everyone wore one wherever they went,

And Biff was delighted by this fine event.

He said, “Now I’ll know every woman and man!”

Then happily started to reach out his hand.

[Chorus]

Keep searching, Biff, you haven’t found it yet,

The little Braille tag is hanging by my neck.

Move a little higher—no, don’t wander down there!

Keep searching, Biff, it’s somewhere—somewhere!

Keep searching, Biff, you haven’t found it yet,

Be careful where you’re feeling. You want no regret

That wandering hand and that innocent mistake—

Keep searching, Oh my Biff, for goodness sake!

You’re not very accurate.

[Verse 3]

He reached for Miss Molly, but missed by a mile,

She jumped like a rabbit and lost her smile.

His fingers went searching in the wrong place—

She slapped poor old Biff across the face!

He said, “Oh, sorry! I meant nothing wrong.

I need your name tag hanging strong!”

She pointed his fingers toward her neck,

And said, “Biff Jenkins, it’s near my neck!”

[Verse 4]

Now some folks got angry; some moved away,

Kind folks helped him and showed him the way.

Some said, “Ask permission before you begin,

Then we’ll guide your hand to the tag with a grin.”

But others just giggled and joined in the fun,

For they knew Biff would harm no one.

And when his hand wandered too low,

They laughed as they said a friendly, "WHOA."

You’ve called me three names, and all incorrect!

Biff smiled and said, “Thank you—now, who did you say?”

They laughed, “Oh, Biff! Don’t search all day.”

[Tag Ending]

Keep searching, Biff, you haven’t found it yet!

Keep searching, Biff—you’re fine; you’re set!

A little to the left—now upward—there you are!

You found my Braille tag—but you called me Lamar!
