Forgive Forgive

Socrates asked, “How men should live?”
Jesus told told us, “You must forgive.”
We say to God, “That can’t be right.
I’m born to fight. I know what’s right.”
When God’s own views don’t match our own
Admit it then. Throw sticks and stones.

Listen again:
Jesus speaks truths we may forget:

[narration]
“For with what judgment ye judge,
ye shall be judged:
and with what measure ye mete,
it shall be measured to you again.”

Bigots are here. They grow each year.
Preach only thoughts to feed men’s fear.
Forgiveness? No. No chance in hell.
Oh boy, my son, a Christian fell.

Can we practice what Christ says now?
Can we listen to other’s news?
Can we grow love for all mankind?
Can we unwind our hate entwined?

Listen again:
Jesus speaks truths we may forget:

[narration]
“Judge not, and ye shall not be judged:
Condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned:
Forgive, and ye shall be forgiven.”

Yes, Jesus taught how we should live.
Forgive, forgive, forgive, forgive.
Taught mercy too. Taught you.
Let it go son. Drink water pure
Forget again your caustic brew
Forgiveness, love, and mercy do.
Don’t cling to hate. Give space. Be kind.

Why claim we then that Christian fire
Is what we want, what we desire.
When all we want is a big fight.

Listen again:
Jesus speaks truths we may forget:

[narration]
“But why dost thou judge thy brother?
For we shall all stand
before the judgment seat of Christ…
Let us not therefore judge one another any more:
But judge this rather, that no man put a stumbling block
Or an occasion to fall in his brother’s way.”
