Rabbit and Coyote

It's now March silver,
I've waited for today.
Walking past the bay,
I pressed on my way.

Eastern light grew bright
Absorbing the chill.
Sun is on the rise.
Song birds start to trill.

Thicket to thicket
I move through the grass.
I saw the rabbits
They may try to pass.

I found the best spot.
The rabbits forgot me.
My camera's I've got.
And patience, I’ve got.
[Instrumental solo]

On this fresh spring day
I’ll learn what I can
Rabbit secrets I'll learn.
From behind a green fern fan.

A hawk overhead
Dove fast in the wind.
Then a flash nearby
Made rabbits unwind.

A strong wild beast,
Intent and steady
Crouched hungry and strong
Quiet and ready.

The coyote crouched low
Magnificent beast
A yellow-orange gaze,
It came for a feast.
[Instrumental solo]

Like a cat the Coyote moved
On spring-loaded legs
Dropped into the grass
Wants meat, Coyote said.

My heart felt fear.
I've never been so near
A wild coyote intending to kill.

There was a loser here.
This happy, new day,
The rabbits got away.

Yes, the rabbits got away.
[Instuments finish the song]
