[verse 1]
I’m thinking of the past that never lasts.
I’m thinking about Mother before she passed.
Throughout her life she took her turn
With troubles that burned yet helped her learn.
[verse 2]
Mom knew both troubles and joys.
She had fun and dated many boys.
Her standards were always kept.
Boyfriends treated her with respect.
[chorus]
A promised gift from our faith,
We’ll meet again in a new place.
I can hardly wait, Mother dear.
Being with you again will bring tears.
[verse 3]
A Temple marriage came but then divorce
Which thrust her into the work force.
Providing for two children, all alone,
Was stone she was not prepared to carry.
[verse 4]
But she had skills, learned from school,
That pleased her employers. Mom followed rules.
A few years passed and Hubert came along.
Mom sang again a wedding song.
[chorus]
A promised gift from our faith,
We’ll meet again in a new place.
I can hardly wait, Mother dear.
Being with you again will bring tears.
[verse 5]
Mom ended up in St. Anthony, Idaho.
She worked and finished important goals.
One of her greatest goals was to serve God.
Her mind, clear and strong, knew no fog.
[verse 6]
She walked the path called -- helping other.
She loved Hubert and three children came along.
Mom lived a life of service and peace.
Mom never took time for disbelief.
[chorus]
A promised gift from our faith,
We’ll meet again in a new place.
I can hardly wait, Mother dear.
Being with you again will bring tears.
[verse 7]
Mom would never fight with Hubert
Although he was a fighting man.
She wanted peace, no hot frying pan.
Mom’s way. Never criticize others.
Even when you can.
[verse 8]
Mom was sweet, mellow and kind.
To unwind, she would help Grandma.
She cleaned, washed, and saved
Grandma from a nursing home.
[chorus]
A promised gift from our faith,
We’ll meet again in a new place.
I can hardly wait, Mother dear.
Being with you again will bring tears.
