Tom's Fight
I drove north to help a friend,
A horse to test, my time to lend.
I found the corral, saddle near,
And mounted up with a cheer.
At first, the bronc was still,
Then bucked high with violent will.
It threw me high; I crashed back down,
On the horn, yes, butt to horn.
Now I’m torn.
Chorus
The healing path is steep and long,
But my spirit’s firm and strong.
The future shines although roads do bend,
But walking days will come again.
My pelvis broke, some tendons tore,
I slid in pain to dirt floor.
The medics came with skills galore
Then urgent care was next for sure.
The doctors scanned, then chose the knife,
To save my life, my broken life.
With legs now weak, no weight to bear,
I faced long weeks of slow repair.
Chorus
The healing path is steep and long,
But my spirit’s firm and strong.
The future shines although roads do bend,
But walking days will come again.
My law work I did from home.
Important work on the phone,
Wheel chair then to roll around.
Crutches now while I re-bound.
Chorus
The healing path is steep and long,
But my spirit’s firm and strong.
The future shines 'though roads do bend,
But walking days will come again.
Through trial’s fire, hope makes me whole,
A brighter dawn now lights my soul.
